Stained glass window restored

This beautiful stained glass window, first given to the glory of God and in honor of the founding rector, The Reverend John Thomas Wheat, by the Sunday School children of All Saints’ in 1892, has been restored in 2023 to the glory of God and in loving memory of Alice Jackson “Jack” Hilbish by her children George Hilbish and Melissa Hilbish.

Alice Jackson “Jack” Hilbish was born in Massie Mill, VA on November 21, 1926. She was the youngest child of Alice and Robert Massie. Jack graduated from Lovingston High School and married her childhood sweetheart, Frederick “Buddy” Hilbish of Piney River on June 2, 1945. A lifelong Episcopalian, Jack was inspired by Henry Wiley and his brother David to join St. James Episcopal Church, Kannapolis, NC. The Hilbishes adopted two children, Melissa and George. The Hilbishes were active at St. James and, after the merger, at All Saints’, Concord. They were also instrumental in the founding of Concord Academy, now Cannon School. Jack was lively, artistic and did exquisite needlework. She chaired the craft section of the Olde Countrie Faire for many years. With Ginny Aberle, Jack organized the creation of the needlepoint kneelers for the altar and the Chrismons which adorn the altar trees at Christmas. She was frequently the life of the party and had a special gift with young people who were happy to have her as a chaperone and sought her out during Kanuga Parish Weekends. Jack died in Lynchburg, Virginia, March 5, 2001 and is buried in the Massie Family Cemetery, Troy, Virginia.

You are invited to view the restored window in its current placement between the Welcome Center and Sanctuary.
